Since the inception of the event in the year 2019, there has always been a hallmark of success recorded in the event. However, this year’s own is not left behind. The Asiwaju speech inter -faculty speech contest was held on Wednesday, April 19th, 2023 at the Assembly hall with over 410 attendees.
The event flagged off at exactly 1:25pm with the first event on the order of program, which was the opening prayer anchored by the JCIN Ambassador Adepoju Sunday, Director Of Skills and Development, followed by the reciting of the creed, and the introduction of dignitaries present.
In opening the ceremony, a speech was delivered on the scheduled theme of the event tagged “Demystifying Nigeria’s Cashless Financial Policy And Its Impact On The Citizens”, and which was delivered by the Theme Speaker, Mr. Olubukola Adio, of the Mass Communication Department, where he gave a detailed discussion of the operation of the Central Bank Of Nigeria, under the leadership of the former CBN Governor, Mallam Sanusi. He further revealed that in his own opinion, the main purpose of the arrival of the “Cashless Policy” is simply because the essence of spending cash at hand is less significant.
In a bid to lighten up the atmosphere before the battle session of words, an educative program was organized which was tagged Talent Hunt, where other non-participants who can battle for talents were given the space to showcase themselves.
The integral part of the ceremony that sees the coming together of students from different faculties on campus is the “INTER-FACULTY Speech Contest”, which was titled, “Introduction Of The New Currency; The Glamour And The Gaps”. Below are the names of the contestants representing each faculty;
- Faculty Of Engineering – Oba Christopher And Olaoye Oluwabukola
- Faculty Of Environmental Studies – Obagunje And Kazali Sunday
- Faculty Of Financial And Management Studies – Oloyede Oluwaferanmi Victor And Bernard Friday
- Faculty Of Business And Communication Studies – Aluko Shahudah Folashade And Akintunde Elijah Olarenwaju
- Faculty Of Science – Isah Favour Glory And Ahor Emmanuel
After battling in words on the proposed topic, the Faculty Of Financial And Management Studies came 3rd with an overall points of 236, while the Faculty Of Science Slammed the Faculty of Financial Management Studies with a total points of 248. However, the Faculty Of Business And Communication Studies, showcased their abilities by winning the 4th edition of the Asiwaju INTER-FACULTY Speech contest, with 277 points.
The event had in attendance, the Deputy Registrar of the Institution (Academics), Dr. Olajide Taiwo, and a host of others.
