Akinwale Peter, a member of the Press Council has excellency dominated the show at the Oratory Contest organized by the Association of Student Communications, ASCOM, under the administration of Kehinde Ayanboade.
According to the Chief Judge, Dr. Bisi Olawuyi, who signified Peter amongst other contestants to be the only contestant that portrayed what public speaking is about.
“Public speaking is a controlled conversation between two people. And the only person that conversed with the audience is Akinwale Peter”.
Peter swept every foot off the ground while delivering his speech with his sonorous voice and his outstanding points.
Oladokun Fatimah emerged first by the end of the contest, Akinwale Peter emerged second, while Omotayo Abigail came third.
Other contestants include Hamzat Ameenat, Adetunji Joshua, Garuba Rasheedat, Adetunji Olusoji, Eyeowa Victor, Ohumuo Frank, and Busari Usman.
The event also featured the speech of the chairman of the event, Mr. Bisi Oladele who is a veteran journalist and a publisher, of Newspeak Magazine, who spoke extensively on the theme of the event; The New media, a veritable tool for upholding National Unity and Integration in Nigeria, as he explained the different news media, the gap between the effects and what needs to be done to put the new media in regulation.
He praises the new media for its immediacy, timeliness, flexibility, and easy access to information as they are the evolutionary development bought to the field of journalism. He however charged media practitioners to shun the unethical practice of journalism and urged concerned stakeholders to take a leading role in regulating the practice of online journalism.
The contest, held at Assembly Hall, North Campus, was graced by Oyo State NUJ Chairman, Mr. Ademola Babalola, The Nation Consulting Editor,Mr. Bisi Oladele, Sub Dean, Faculty of Art, The University of Ibadan, Mr. Bisi Olawuyi, Head of Department Mass communication Department, Alhaji Najeemdeen Adunola, Mr. Phillip Ojo, amongst others.
