In an espirit de corps manner, the Non-Academic Staff Union of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, has joined other organised labour unions within Oyo State, today.
Members of the Non-Academic Staff in conformity with the leadership of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC), Oyo State chapters blocked main roads in Ibadan to press home their demands.
Reacting to the ongoing nationwide protest, the Chairman of Non-Academic Staff of The Polytechnic Ibadan, Comrade Kareem Adegoke Muritala expressed that the economic situation is worrisome and unbearable for the all workers in the State. Urging the Oyo State Government to do the needful and provide palliatives to ease difficult situation caused by the subsidy removal.
“Polyibadan Nasu has no excuse than to join the protest. We are getting half subventions from the State Government instead of full subventions on monthly basis and this is affecting the institution and educational system within the State”, Kareem revealed
Kareem added that the dwindling economy is the main reason for the management’s decision to increase the acceptance fee to N42,500 for the new session.
He confirmed that their Internal Generated Revenue (IGR) have been paid by the management a week after their protest.
The organised labour unions commenced peaceful protest on Monday, demanding for the payment of palliatives, payment of salary deduction, Upward review of pension and allowances, payment of leave bonus,payment of gratuity for retirees and release of promotion letters for year 2021.
