A Comprehensive Report on “State of The Union”

The much anticipated State of the union organized to checkmate the students union government by Press Council, The Polytechnic, Ibadan is the first of it’s kind as issues concerning the activities of the Union were reviewed.

The event held on the 17th August, 2019 was an initiative to get much needed answers to pressing questions concerning the Akadiri led Administration and its loopholes. However, the students expressed their displeasure on the absence of the S.U.G. President, Akadiri Bayonle, whom the event was centred on.

According to the Students’ Union General Secretary, Com. Jimoh Rahmon representing the President, he listed a number of achievements stating that the union has been attending to the welfare of the Students.
He further emphasized that one of their basic achievements is the reduction of school fees which the union solicited for as well as the cancelation of EED final product fee.

When asked if the SUG will hold this semester following the abrupt disruption of the Queens cup in the first semester by a riot which sent the school on a mid semester break, Comrade Jimoh affirmed that the Union is putting everything in place to ensure they have a peaceful match.

In the same vein, the credibility of the Akadiri Led administration was brought to questioning making reference to the issue of embezzlement of the Union’s fund by Adediran Adedoyin and Ekanola Damilola, the General Secretary waved off comments on the basis of not being in the position to neither criticize nor talk about any former colleague after he/she has been impeached, because according to him, the discharge of his responsibilities are not directly linked to the offices in question.

In a bid to enquire more on the SUG curriculum as widely observed by PRESS COUNCIL that the Union’s activities always revolve around Fresher’s Night, Football Competitions amongst others which are substantial, the General Secretary affirmed that the students should expect more, laying emphasis on Academic gatherings. Although, it was observed through the students’ countenance that it’s a mere political propaganda.

The event featured interactive session with students ensuring that students were satisfied and hopeful for the administration.
