We are unable to access our Old Portal; Poly Ibadan Students cries for Help.

By: Gbolagade Sunday and Akinteye Temitope

In the early hours of Monday morning 9th March, 2020 after the first lecture in the class of HND2, department of Public Administration; The Polytechnic, Ibadan. Head of Department said, “For those of you that have not seen your result for second semester 2018/2019 academic session, you can go to the notice or scoreboard at the department to see your results”. At the scoreboard; Shola, Timi, Biodun what did you score in that course? As for me, I had 55, 66, 65 but I’ve seen some other results earlier before it was posted for the general public.

While exclaiming loudly, the student who spoke on anonymity , “ahh Mio tiri result kankan rare (I’m yet to see any result at all) ever since the beginning of the session but all my efforts were futile as my usual reply is we’re still working on it.” Old students (Nd2 and HND 2) who are in the shoe of no portal; no result explained their ordeal to the Press Council on what precipitates the menace.

“The department cannot solve your problem therefore, you’ll have to go to CIDM and complain that you’re unable to complete your first-year registration,” that was Head of Department of Public Administration, Mr Titus Ojo expressing his disbelief to students who have the problem of no portal, unregistered courses, inaccessibility to complete registration hence unregistered students for the 2018/2019 session. While responding to students at Centre for Information and Data Management (CIDM); Mr Kenny popularly as called asked, before the advent of new portal and Treasury Single Account why did you fail to complete your registration because this is a very critical and serious case?

It’s no gainsaying that the new policy initiated by the State government concerning the Treasury Single Account birthed the emergence of new students portal for students of The Polytechnic, Ibadan where all fees are paid uniformly hence a bye-bye to the old student portal. Thus, with the introduction of new policies and plans by the state cum management of the institution, it’s a necessity to consider some certain students who are one or two ways unable to finish their previous registration.

This case is rampant amongst old students of the institution. While chatting with Press Council correspondent, SUG president Comrade Fadare Blessing eulogized the untiring support of the management to enable students in that category to finish their registration before it gets too late perhaps he promised that the union will work to make sure the students are relieved.

However, some students who spoke on anonymity explained that the cause of the delay was from the institution due to the delay in the issuance of Notification of Result which has hindered them to get cleared on time thereby resulted into a bigger issue for them, while to others who has a different side to the story explained that they have paid for tuition fee but have not paid the miscellaneous and other attached fee before eligibility to print course form although the portal to pay those fees are quite different yet, it has been a problem for them.

However, some lecturers who spoke to Press Council and pleaded anonymity emphasized that adverse effect of late registration brings about delay in the final result whereas students are also lackadaisical about registration. Hence, they should do all what they can so that they’ll be able to graduate with their mates who has done the necessary registrations as specified by the institution.

While contacting the Public Relation Officer of the institution about this matter, Alhaji Soladoye critically analysed that the advent of the new policies of the Oyo government has caused the closure of the old student’s portal as every students irrespective of their programs are to complete their online registration on a single interface moreover, efforts are ongoing concerning certain students who are yet to complete their 2018/2019 registration thus, all hands are on deck to bring succor and smile to the face of the students.

Nevertheless, the implications of such students with issues of inability to submit or print the previous session course form due to some technical problem as told by the CIDM officials; automatically means the students won’t see their results for that semester as their name will not appear on the score sheets, they will not get their result processed on time and unfortunately inability to being allocated project supervisors on time and exclusion of their names from the collated score sheets unfortunately a bigger issue.

Therefore, the students plead and request that the management upgrades and updates the technological operation in the school as concerns old profile of students on payment of relevant outstanding fees and availability of their results so as to make them progress, and not lag behind in their academics.
