It was an atmosphere filled with cheers and excitement as The Polytechnic Ibadan, Department of Surveying and Geoinformatics held her 2020/2021 Annual Surveying Camp. The grand finale of the academic exercise had in presence, Management staff, HODs, Dean of Faculty of Environmental Studies, Students’ Leaders, Guests, Students (ND1& HND1), observers and friend. The event was held on Friday 29th 2021 at the Unity Hall of Residence, North campus of the institution.
The academic discourse which lasted a period of one week where the students were exposed to alot of practical experiences of what has been learnt in the class (theories), and were tutored on equipments and rudiments in Surveying.
While speaking with Press Council correspondent, Surveyor Martin’s Oyetola, The Head Department of Surveying and Geoinformatics, “At the beginning we faced some breaches but we thank God it’s a success. We accomplished alot, our students were able to get familiar with some equipments such as ( Drone, Smart Station etc)”. Also, he affirmed that the students were taught on the practice and rudiments of those equipments.
Furthermore, he also advised that many of those that practice this profession and are yet to have educational background and the rudiment to be professionals should join and partake in registrations and necessary training. Also, he appealed to the school management to continue provide more equipments to the benefits of the students so that the lecturers will be up to date and the students too will be up to date.
The President, Association of Private Practising Surveyor, Oyo State Chapter, Surveyor Oguntade, he emphasized that the students should make use of all they have been taught during the course of the event. Finally, he admonished the student to keep the ethics of Surveying safe and strictly adhered to.
In his own remark, the Students’ Association President, Department of Surveying and Geoinformatics 2019/2020, Comrade Ayeyemi Adebowale Yusuf affirms, ” this camping event will expose the real picture of the profession to the new students”, he said. He thereafter eulogised the school for involving the use of drones as exposure to the new students.
According to Students who spoke with Press Council, Sola Olabamiji, HND 1 Student expressed his happiness to the school for projecting something of great knowledge. “The involvement of new technology is a major impact in this profession”, he said. He extends his appreciation to the Head of Department for his hard work towards the good works. While to her, Abass Barakat an HND 1 student, ” the Survey Camp is enlightening based on practical aspects of the Course, we were been given Exercises to solve elaborately. This has also expanded our frontier of knowledge on certain equipment regarding this course”, she concluded.
The Event however doesn’t ends on a dry note without a word of Admonition from visitors, well-wisher, guests and observers.
