The Polytechnic, Ibadan management has lifted the ban for the Students’ Union Election. The collection of the nomination form started from Friday 30th July, 2021 and the closing date for the submission of completed nomination forms is wednesday, 11th, August 2021.
During the meeting by the Students’ Affairs, it was deliberated on how to make the SUG election credible and successful through the use of E-election. The Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. S. A. Ajibola, informed everyone present at the meeting that if there’s any advice or information to make the election successful, they should inform the electoral committee.
According to the tentatively approved SUG election calendar by the electoral committee, these are the ban Issues procedure during campaigning of candidates and or supporters. They are listed below:
- Using motorcade by the contestants
- Pasting posters on walls of offices, lecture Theatres, classrooms
- Using of Digital Banners
- Wearing of branded vests
- inscriptions on roads & buildings
- consumption of Alcohol during campaign and election
- usage of hard drugs and possession of dangerous weapons during campaign and election
- Campaigns are not meant to be done in any class while lectures are going on
- Hate speech and verbal abuse during election process are absolutely disallowed during the campaign and election
- Disallowing of external influence.
The Dean of Student Affairs urged the HOD of each department whose students are aspiring or contesting for the election to take note of the criteria to be eligible as aspirants. Hence, student contesting for the position in Students’ Union Government shall satisfy the following criteria:
A. All aspirants must have a minimum of lower credit (2.5. CGPA) with the expectation of the President who shall have at least upper credit CGPA (1st semester result of the first year)
B. All aspirants for SUE position must not hold any office in the department, faculty, association, press club or any other association within the institution.
C. An aspirant must be willing, ready and able to serve at all time with genuine interest.
D. Any aspirant that has been found guilty of any misconduct or crime within and/or outside the institution shall not be eligible for any students’ union election.
E. An aspirant must meet the following requirements for 2020/2021 students’ union election screening exercise:
I. Current 2nd semester fees receipt
ii. Any of the following identity cards i.e school I.D, faculty, Departmental and library
iii. Current students’ union receipt
iv. HND aspirants must produce ND notification of Result from accredited instruction of Higher learning
V. ND Aspirant must produce SSCE result
Vi. ND I HND I students must have submitted their matriculation oath. A photocopy must be attached to the form before submission.
