The lockdown during the covid – 19 pandemic was an essential measure in spite of the hardship It brought economically to the nation. The lockdown was a good measure because it curb the spread of the virus drastically in their country. If not for the lockdown, the number of cases would have rised drastically and the virus would have spread like an ocean across the society. This would have made the economy worsen and adversely affect every sphere of the economy.
Moreover, the lockdown during the pandemic brought hardship to the nation, because all activities were crippled, which makes it hard for the citizen to survive as many lost their jobs, but the manner in which the government managed the lockdown process was not too good but rather too political and not people friendly. However, as the saying goes that prevention is better than cure.
Also, this lockdown is a measure that really exposed our educational system to be conventional with other developed countries like USA, U.K, Canada etc. Who have adopted the online teaching and degree programs. Before the pandemic, online degrees were mostly not reckoned with but now, it is widely acceptable.
After this pandemic has brought untold hardship and loss of livelihood, which caused the economy right now to be in huge debt, nonetheless as activities have gradually return to normal, but the nation cannot be out of the mess soon at all.
However, what would have been done better during this pandemic would have been shutting down the inflow of international flight into Nigerian because that is the only way it can get in but that was big so until late as in our case in this country.
Also, on the education system, the only thing that would have been done differently is the physical examination which universities conducted online during this pandemic. So I see it as a welcome development to open our eyes to modern things don’t across the world.
During this pandemic, I would have employed a people friendly approach in the palliative distribution, those organization that wan’t to give the government for political recognizing should have employed the means they reach out to to their customer to help alleviate the effect of the lockdown on them.
Now, when the country is moving out of the lockdown phase, it is not the best time for a government that has not been responsible for the provision of her citizens during the lockdown period to increase the cost of electricity, hike in VAT, expensive foodstuffs, petrol marketers back deregulation, even if they are to increase at all. This toxic actions will worsen our economy in the next few months that will never be forgotten.
As the government claim to strive and ameliorate the adverse effects of the coronavirus disease(COVID -19) through palliative measures, bailouts and waivers, the Nigerian government appears to be aggravating the impact on it’s citizens and businesses. Rash of hikes and increase in cost of products and services, is thereby making life unbearable and look impossible for recovery for the citizen.
