The Polytechnic Ibadan was in a state of unrest yesterday after news of a security officer, who was said to have allegedly shot one of the newly admitted students of the science and Laboratory technology department, Taibat Babatunde, at the sewage hall of the institution.

Taibat was said to have been hit by a stray bullet from one of the security officers of the institution who was trying to disperse passersby who were watching a scene between the institution security officers and a driver who was caught driving through a one-way road.
However, news and different shades of rumor have been flying around saying the gunshot wasn’t fired by the security officer and that, the victim is dead.
According to a press Council correspondent, it has been reported that Taibat is not dead! She is currently in the University College Hospital, Ibadan, receiving First-class Medical treatments. Doctors in charge of Taibat’s treatment have declared that no bullet was found in her body but she has suffered bruises from pellets of the local bullets.
The doctor also made an assurance that Taibat will be fine in no time as she will be taken to the theatre for the last stage of her treatment.
The State Commissioner for education, Hon. Abdulrahman, has also visited the hospital to keep a tab of the girl’s condition. The Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. S.A Ajibola, as well as the Dean, faculty of science, Dr. B. A Oseni, have also been to the hospital to show the victim their supports.
Also, the Student Union Executives through a statement earlier released by the Public Relations Officer, Comrade Oyero Razaq Babatunde has cleared the air as regards the security tension in the school, urging all students of the institution to resume classes immediately.
However, The school security department popularly known as maintenance has debunked the rumor, claiming the bullet wasn’t fired by the security officer of their department, leaving the whole of the polytechnic Ibadan students with a puzzle to solve.
