The Student Union Government (SUG) of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, in collaboration with key stakeholders and the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to Governor Seyi Makinde, commissioned several capital projects, including a new billboard displaying the institution’s name at the Main Gate and additional billboards at the Assembly Hall North Campus, on Friday, September 20, 2024.
The SUG is proud to unveil this latest capital project, which aims to enhance student facilities and foster a vibrant campus life. The Ceremony was attended by distinguished guests and students, including Dr. Taiwo Olajide, The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Admission Officer; Hon. Olojede Victor, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Students’ Affairs; Mrs. Akintunde, Deputy Registrar; Mr. Makinde John, Dean Students Affairs; Mr Rahmon Adeleke A.; and Comr Adebayo Toyeeb, the Social Director 2019/2020 session, amidst many others.
The event commenced with an opening prayer led by Comr. Friday, followed by a welcome speech delivered by the SUG President, Comr. Oyekan Tobiloba. In his welcoming speech, he expressed his appreciation to Hon. Olojede Victor, the Admission officer, Dean student affairs, as well as others present at the event. He emphasized the symbolism of the new billboard, which represents unity and pride for the institution. He also acknowledged the recently awarded bus donated to the SUG by Governor Seyi Makinde.
SSA to the Governor on Students’ Affairs, Hon. Olojede Victor, gave his speech and commend the effort of Oyekan-led administration, particularly in terms of student welfarism. He also spoke about student union election, urging both the management and students to choose wisely when voting for candidates in order to ensure continuity of progress and improvement on current standards.
Comrade Adebayo Toheeb, the Social Director 2019/2020 session, gave a brief speech by welcoming the dignitaries on seat and commending the led administration for unveiling one of the most impactful projects to date.
While the program was going on, Deputy Registrar Student Affairs, Mrs Akintunde was invited to the podium to give her speech. Dr.(Mrs) Taiwo Olajide also shared her warm remarks, encouraging the incoming executives to explore peaceful methods of negotiation with the management and government, rather than resorting to violence, to achieve their goals.
Mr. Rahmon Adeleke Adefowope from the Department of Music Technology also addressed the students, advising them to emulate his lay down principles.
The commissioning of the billboard at the Main Gate was conducted by the SSA to the Governor on Student Affairs, symbolizing the formal completion of the project.
Furthermore, donations were made toward the renovation of the campus toilets, with a proposed budget amounting to 1.5million Naira.
In his closing remarks, the Dean of Student Affairs commended the SUG’s efforts but noted that this would be the last project the SUG would undertake independently. He emphasized that, moving forward, the school management would take the lead in determining the most important needs of the students.
