The 2024/2025 newly elected Executives and Students Representative Council (SRC) of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, gathered at the Assembly Hall today, November 25, 2024, for a one-day seminar.
The seminar, which commenced at exactly 11:15 am, was anchored by the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Alhaji soladoye . The event aimed to equip the newly elected student leaders with the necessary skills, knowledge, and expertise to excel in their respective roles.
The Registrar announced a significant milestone in his speech, revealing that a major step had been taken in endorsing all 2023/2024 Notification of Results and Certificates. He also took a moment to express gratitude to The Acting Rector, Dr. T.A. Lasisi, acknowledging his exemplary leadership and encouraging the Students’ Union Executive (SUE) to draw inspiration from his example.
The event was followed by an educative seminar sessions by various speakers, teaching all students union executives and representatives how to become the best version of a leader on campus. Presentations on various topics, including leading students Organization, Transparency and Accountability on funds of students government, rules guiding students conduct in unionism – offenses and penalties.
The seminar provided a platform for the student leaders to network, share ideas, and build relationships that will foster a harmonious and productive academic environment.
In a statement, by Dr.O. Oyewo, emphasized the importance of the seminar, saying, “As future leaders, it is essential that our students are equipped with the necessary skills to excel in their roles”. He emphasize on positivity as the goal to achieving a successful administration.
Barrister Akinsola Ige Esq., of the Registry Department, delivered a lecture titled “Rules Guiding Students’ Conducts” to the student union. He emphasized the importance of adhering to the guidelines and principles set by the management, stressing that this was crucial for the union to fulfill its specific roles and duties effectively.
To support his argument, Barrister Ige cited several key sources where these principles can be found:
- The Nigerian Constitution, which provides the foundational framework for governance and conduct.
- The Polytechnic, Ibadan Law, which outlines the specific regulations governing the institution.
- The Polytechnic, Ibadan Handbook, which provides detailed guidelines for students’ conduct and behavior.
By emphasizing the importance of adhering to these principles, Barrister Ige encouraged the student union to work within the established framework to achieve their goals and fulfill their responsibilities.
The seminar came to a close with a sense of excitement and anticipation, as the newly elected student leaders look forward to applying the knowledge and skills they acquired during the event
After which vote of thanks was taken by the Deputy Registrar as she made it known that the swearing in ceremony will hold on the 26th November, 2024. Wishing the students union executives and representatives a successful tenure, and that may all knowledge gained today propel them to greatness
