The Polytechnic, Ibadan joyously welcomes Dr. Taiwo Abideen Lasisi as the newly appointed Acting Rector approved by the Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde. This appointment, effective from March 25th, 2024, to September 25th, 2024, was announced by the State’s Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Prof. Salihu Adelabu, in a statement to the press in Ibadan on Saturday.

The decision to appoint Dr. Lasisi in an acting capacity for six months follows the conclusion of Prof. Kazeem Adebiyi’s tenure on March 24, 2024. The government expressed confidence in Dr. Lasisi’s capabilities, anticipating his hard work, diligence, and professionalism in advancing the institution’s mission.

Dr. Taiwo Abideen Lasisi brings a wealth of experience and expertise in applied sciences, particularly in Statistics for National Development. His academic journey includes a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Statistics from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, and a Doctorate of Philosophy Degree in Statistics (Time Series Analysis) from the University of Botswana, Botswana, South Africa.

Throughout his career, Dr. Lasisi has held significant administrative roles, including former Dean of Student Affairs and Director of Academic Planning and Control Unit at The Polytechnic, Ibadan. He also served as an acting Head of the Department of Statistics at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology.

Apart from his academic achievements, Dr. Lasisi is actively involved in social and cultural groups in Ibadan, including the Ibadan Solidarity Group (ISG) and Ibadan Action Council (IAC), both affiliates of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII).

In a statement released by the Student Union Government of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Comrade Oyekan Tobiloba, the Student Union President expressed excitement about Dr. Lasisi’s appointment, highlighting his leadership qualities, commitment to academic excellence, and vision for collaborative progress between the administration and the student body.

He further states that the Students Union looks forward to a fruitful collaboration with Dr. Taiwo Abideen Lasisi, working together to enhance the learning experience and welfare of students at The Polytechnic, Ibadan.
