Today, September 20th, 2023, the Day 5 of the NBTE/Nigeria Polytechnics Senior Staff Games Association (NIPOSSGA) at The Polytechnic, Ibadan, saw a fantastic array of indoor and outdoor games that kept both participants and spectators on the edge of their seats. The day featured football, volleyball, lawn tennis, table tennis, chess, ludo, Ayo Olopon, draught, thug of war, and badminton competitions.

Indoor Games Reach Quarter and Semi-Finals:

All indoor games reached the quarter and semi-finals, adding an extra layer of excitement to the competition. Participants demonstrated their strategic thinking, precision, and teamwork as they advanced through the rounds. Fans eagerly await the crowning of champions in these indoor disciplines.

Ayo Olopon Final Played and Winners Announced:

The Ayo Olopon final was played, and the winners were announced in four different categories – Yoruba Male, Yoruba Female, Igbo Male and Igbo Female. This traditional board game showcased the skill and cunning of the players as they vied for the title.

The champions emerged victorious amid cheers and applause from the audience. The following are the list of winners across various categories:
Yoruba Male:
First – Mr. Titiloye Joseph

First – 1st- Ezeibelle ukmaka P.

Thug of War Battles and Advancements:

In the thug of war category, Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, displayed their strength with a 2-0 victory over Kwara State Polytechnic. Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, also secured a 2-0 win against Umaru Waziri Federal Polytechnic, Birnin-Kebbi. Abia State Polytechnic narrowly defeated Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic with a score of 2-1. Federal Polytechnic Ado, Ado-Ekiti, advanced with a walkover as their opponent failed to show up.

The next round promises more exciting thug of war clashes, with Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, facing Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, and Abia State Polytechnic taking on Yabatech. Federal Polytechnic, Oko, advanced through a walkover as The Polytechnic, Ibadan, did not show up.

Football, Volleyball, and Tennis Action:

In football, Federal Polytechnic, Offa secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, while Osun State Polytechnic, Iree defeated Nasarawa State Polytechnic with a score of 1-0.

Oke Ogun Polytechnic, Saki, dominated with a 3-0 win against Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic. The Polytechnic, Ibadan, and Plateau State Polytechnic, Barkin-Ladi, battled to a 1-1 draw, while Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, faced Federal Polytechnic Ado, Ado-Ekiti, in a goalless match.

Volleyball enthusiasts witnessed thrilling clashes, with Umaru Waziri Federal Polytechnic, Birnin-Kebbi, taking on Akanu Ibiam Federal Polytechnic, Unwana.

In table tennis, Plateau State Polytechnic defeated The Polytechnic, Ibadan with a score of 3-0, while Yabatech faced The Polytechnic, Ibadan, in a closely contested match, with The Polytechnic, Ibadan, emerging victorious with a score of 2-1.

As Day 5 concluded, the NIPOSSGA Games continued to showcase the remarkable talent and sportsmanship of polytechnic senior staff from across Nigeria. The atmosphere at The Polytechnic, Ibadan, remains electric, with fans eagerly awaiting more thrilling moments in the days ahead.
