NAPAD PRESS INDUCTS 10 CAMPUS JOURNALISTS

In a bid to promote the ethics of journalism and good Administration, the National Association of Public Administration Students, NAPADS Press Unit organized a day seminar and induction for her members and was tagged “Influence of Journalism on Effective Administration” held on the 19th October, 2019 at the departments library.

In his welcome address, the Editor- in-Chief of NAPADS Press, Comrade Emmanuel Ojatunwase stated that the aim of the programme was to build capacity and to equip members of the NAPADS Press with necessary skills required to excel in carrying out their respective duties as campus Journalists.

While speaking on the topic “Influence of Journalism on Effective Administration”, the guest speaker who is also a freelance Journalist, Mr. Adesola Ikulajulo explained that the fourth estate should be a watch dog for authorities. According to him, for every society to strive with the existence of democratic rule practiced by its government, Journalists must see the needs and take the lead by writing against the wrong doings.

Adesola further emphasized on the influence of journalists towards effective Administration by stating that there must be in-depth research and analysis, accurate as well as quality investigative reports, an inquisitive mind and follow up to measure the works done and the effects.

Speaking at the programme, an Alumnus of NAPADS Press, Comrade Oluwadamilare Alaba emphasized that members of the press are expected to inform, Educate and entertain the general public. According to him, the Press is an important lubricant to the society as there is need for effective communication on campus which in turn helps to combat the challenges of lack of free information, poor Management policies, amongst others.

Comrade Oluwadamilare however urged the Press members to develop themselves with new technological skills in carrying out investigations and also, they should start taking online courses so as to become distinctive journalists while still on campus.

In his remarks, Comrade Ezekiel Oladele explained that the programme is not meant for just the educated but also to share more light on how to become outstanding campus Journalist. He therefore encouraged members to see it as an opportunity to develop themselves in writing as well to improve in communication, Management skill, problem solving and team work.

The oath of induction was led by the Acting Head of Department of Public Administration, Mr. T. Adeyeye and ten members were inducted to the National Association of Public Administration Press Unit.
