The Faculty of Engineering students, under the leadership of Comrade Akeem Azeez Ajibola, has led her students on a walk to commemorate the World Recycling.
Tagged ‘SAY NO TO DIRY ENVIRONMENT’, the exercise was in conjunction with the Students Initiative Vanguard, and sponsored by Recycledge, One hour phone and gadget, and Melody Edu concept.
The cleaning exercise saw students from all the departments across the faculty, come together, to clean the surroundings of the faculty.
While addressing the students, the director of Students Initiative Vanguard, explained the importance of a clean environment and it’s benefits, alongside essential formation for disposing bin, such as Nylon, bottles, etc.
He also added that recycling can boost the economic strength of Nigeria, as it can be converted into money.
He however, admonished the students to cultivate the habit of cleaning their environments, as he promised that orientation on recycling bin and making money from it would be brought to the students soon.
While speaking with Press Council, Comrade Akeem Azeez, explained the reason for coming up with such exercise.
“We discovered that our faculty is really dirty, and we’ve tried several times to work directly with the Works department of the institution, but we can see that they are short of staff and there is limit to what they can do for us. So that is why we use our own discretion as well to make sure we tidy everywhere and every necessary place, as well as the class room and the faculty building”.
“We come together to put this into work and we believed by the virtue of doing this, we are going to open many faculty’s eyes, so that they can do it without the help of anyone.” – he added.
Appreciating organisations and individuals that contributed to the success of the exercise, Comrade Ajibola, boasted the influence of his Faculty.
“Actually, most of these bodies belong to us, we have many of our ex students that happen to be the owner and controller of these bodies. And of course, being the Chief Direction of the Students Alliance body, we were able to put these thing together.”
He however implore the management of the institution and the state, to look into the current situation of the Faculty.
“We are begging the state management and the school management to help look into this, we are lacking a lot and we know that Engr Seyi makinde, the Governor of Oyo state is a person who has the interest of student at heart, and we are hoping to get more support from him”.
