Senator Oyewole Seun, representing Faculty of Science at the Legislative Arm of the Students’ Union Government, The Polytechnic, Ibadan got bullied by some unidentified men on Friday, 16th August 2019 at Love Garden, North Campus of the institution.
“I was going home along with Senator Francis after the plenary session on Friday when I decided to stop at Olori to see someone who had been keen on seeing me. Then from afar, I saw two people coming in my direction after someone, who happened to be Faculty of Science President, whispered into their ears. Then, the next was them beating me when they got to where I was staying.” Senator Seun told PRESS COUNCIL.
The victim, Senator Seun, further expressed his utmost dissatisfaction over such harassment on a Senator on campus, emphasising that if a Senator representing the students was beaten blue black, what hope do students have?
One of the bystanders, Toluwanimi, a resident of Olori Hall said, “I actually saw System (FASSA President) call some guys and he sat down. I really don’t know what he told those guys, but they came to slap the Senator. At least close to 3 to 4 times.”
The chief whip of the House, Senator Francis from Faulty of Science, also told PRESS COUNCIL in a telephone conversation about the incidence. In his conversation, he gave a vivid narration as he was also a witness to this despicable incidence.
“As we were approaching the Olórí hall, Senator Seun discreetly called my attention to two guys approaching the entrance (saying “Francis, those two guys wan come reason us o”) and I replied “okay”, thinking they were coming to extort us. When we crossed path. Suddenly, one of the guys pulled Senator Seun and started beating and slapping him, while the other guy just stood by my side. I attempted to separate them, the one beside me already faced me and attempted beating me as well, so I could leave them to fight. Senator Seun just withdrew himself from me, saying “Leave him, let him beat me na, sheybi na System” and faced his bully telling him “Beat me na, sheybi u dey slap me, slap me well”. The beating stopped and Senator Seun said “System, I’ve seen your work o”, on looking around I observed that “System” was really in the garden.”
When PRESS COUNCIL got in touch with the President, Faculty of Science, Alatise Habeeb also known as System, he denied the accusations levelled against him, saying he doesn’t know anything it.
The incident is being reported to the appropriate quarters, and further investigation is being carried out.
