Akinyemi Oyelere

The noise of pain
Ascends the hills
And wake dead tales
From the tomb of the past

Once upon the time
There was a country
Beneath half of a yellow sun
Therein things fall apart

Could this be arrow of God
Or shadow of the civil war
Frightening and fighting us
In the city that have kings and chiefs

The smoke of painful feelings
Clouded ancient mountains – sky
Winds cries for better Nigeria
Bullets silence peaceful thunder

O radiant mother Nigeria
You slaughtered your own children
With weapons of true protection
On the calvary of hope; heroes bid farewell.
