The Polytechnic, Ibadan, stands at the threshold of hosting an event of monumental importance. Today, September 15th, 2023, marks the arrival of participants in commemoration of the NBTE/Nigerian Polytechnic Senior Staff Games Association (NIPOSSGA) – a gathering that promises to be an extraordinary display of unity, excellence, and sportsmanship amongst senior staff of Polytechnics across the country.
Today, Friday September 15th, 2023, the atmosphere in The Polytechnic, Ibadan was charged with anticipation as athletes, officials, and spectators from polytechnics across Nigeria have poured into the institution. The preparations have been meticulous, reflecting the determination of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, to make this event a resounding success.
One cannot help but be struck by the atmosphere of camaraderie and unity that pervades the institution. Athletes from different corners of Nigeria have arrived, representing their respective polytechnics, ready to compete fiercely but also to celebrate the spirit of togetherness that sports embody.
The Chief Coach of The Polytechnic Ibadan in a brief interview expressed his delight at the hosting of the competition by The Polytechnic, Ibadan, and he also reflects on the level of preparation and readiness from the host institution.”The fixtures are yet to be drawn but most of the games that are included are games that are not volatile”, he further added.
The Polytechnic, Ibadan, has spared no effort to ensure that the facilities are top-notch. The sporting arenas gleam with fresh paint, and the tracks are as smooth as silk. In addition to traditional sports like athletics, football, and volleyball, this year’s NIPOSSGA also includes indoor games such as Chess, Draft, Dart, Ayo Olopon, reflecting the evolving nature of competition in the digital age.
One of the highlights of this event will undoubtedly be the opening ceremony, scheduled for tomorrow Saturday 16th September, 2023, which would have the Honourable Commissioner of Education of Oyo State in attendance, at the state-of-the-art Polytechnic Ibadan North Stadium. Spectators can expect a grand spectacle of music, dance, and spirit of sportsmanship, showcasing the rich diversity of Nigeria.
