…beyond examination, embrace true learning.
***
As the examination season approaches, the aspirations that brought you to campus—to learn, to educate yourselves, to expand your horizons, are more important than ever.
Many times, we find ourselves in a dilemma; Are we reading to gain knowledge, or just to pass exams? The tension, the anxiety about what to read and study, is something we all feel.
Often, the urge to read and study diminishes, due to lack of motivation and discipline. Many students read merely to avoid failure in tests and exams, rather than to truly understand the material. This approach subjects them to cramming rather than genuine memorization and assimilation. It’s only when exams are imminent that we see a surge in seriousness among students.
Unfortunately, many students lose focus, with low library attendance and primary attention often diverted to social, religious, and political activities on campus. While these activities have their place, they should be held secondary to our academic pursuits.
This is a call to action for every student of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, to embrace their reality as learners in this institution. Let’s rediscover the uniqueness in our reading and studying habits. The essence of being a student is to be intellectually sound and academically excellent.
Knowledge is not just power, it is a defense. Education remains the best legacy we can have, therefore, let’s choose to study to gain knowledge, not merely to pass exams.
As we prepare for the upcoming exams, let us remember that the true value of education lies in the knowledge we gain and the skills we develop. By committing to genuine learning, we not only improve our academic performance, but also equip ourselves for future challenges and opportunities. Let’s shift our focus from merely passing exams to truly understanding and mastering our subjects.
By doing so, we build a strong foundation for lifelong success and intellectual growth. Together, let’s make a collective effort to prioritize our studies, support one another, and strive for academic excellence.
Remember, education is a journey, and each step you take brings you closer to becoming a well-rounded, knowledgeable individual. Study smart, stay motivated, and embrace the power of knowledge. Your future self will thank you.
This is a beautiful piece I must say, and to say the timing is very right. Kudos to the writer for the beautiful piece.
