In the wake of a recent opinion piece titled “Shadows in the Union: A Silent Crisis of Accountability,” the Students’ Union President has stepped forward to clarify key issues, dispel misconceptions, and reassure students of the Union’s commitment to transparency and service.
In an exclusive interview with the Press Council, the President addressed the claims of financial misconduct and internal disunity, labeling them as “serious matters that require facts, not fear driven speculations.”
“Every money spent goes through documentation,” he said. “There is no single authorized transaction without a corresponding record.”
He clarified that the Union follows a documented budgetary process, with strict checks between the Treasurer, Financial Secretary, and Students’ Representative Council (SRC). He acknowledged concerns raised by students but cautioned against drawing conclusions from incomplete narratives.
Responding to accusations of intimidation, the President stated clearly:
“No member of this administration has issued threats or silenced anyone. If anyone feels unsafe, we urge them to come forward. We are committed to resolving such issues.”
The President also announced plans for accountability forum and proposed inviting the Press as witness to the Union’s process, reaffirming their stand for openness.
“We are not hiding anything. What we ask for is dialogue, not division.”
As students await further clarifications, the Union calls on everyone to keep the values of unity and service in mind, values that remain the backbone of the Union’s constitution.
“The students deserve truth and fairness not sensationalism,” he concluded.
