The Press Council, 2024/2025 session, held its Membership Induction Ceremony today, Saturday, 30th August 2025, at the Council Secretariat with the theme: “The Pen, The Truth, and The Future.”

The ceremony began with the Press Prayer and an opening prayer led by Comr. Akinpelu Victoria. The event, anchored by the Public Relations Officer, Comr. Fayomi Busola, proceeded seamlessly as executives in attendance took turns for brief introductions.
In his welcome address, the Chairman of the Press Council, Comr. Oladejo Abdulsalam, described the day not only as a celebration but also as “a moment of history and responsibility.” He admonished all newly inducted members to uphold the legacy of service, accountability, and truth, which form the foundation of the Council.

The theme session, delivered by the General Secretary, Comr. Lawal Blessing, emphasized that “the pen is more than a weapon; it is a tool that shapes lives and destinies, a life force.” She highlighted that the Press Council provides a unique opportunity to reach diverse audiences with truth, stressing that while the pen is powerful, its true value lies in being guided by truth.

The highlight of the ceremony was the induction proper, where the Chairman, Comr. Oladejo Olakunmi A., administered the oath of membership, formally ushering in the new inductees to the noble responsibility of wielding the pen in truth for the future.
Before the final session, an announcement was made by the Public Relations Officer, Comr. Fayomi Busola, who informed members about the forthcoming Press Council at 50 celebration, the official handover program, and the anticipated State of the Union.

Also gracing the event were alumni and past leaders of the Council, including Comr. Adetunji Joshua, Chairman during the 2022/2023 academic session, and Comr. Àjàyí Toyyib Olabamiji, Chairman of the 2023/2024 session, whose presence added prestige and inspiration to the gathering.
In conclusion, the Vice Chairman, Comr. Sulaimon Taiwo, gave the closing remarks and advice for the newly inducted members through a poem titled “The Torch Bearer of Truth.”
The event came to an end with the Press Prayer.
