In an emergency meeting with the school management, held at The Polytechnic Ibadan’s Central Administrative Building on Monday 4th December, 2023, student stakeholders raised issues faced by students of The Polytechnic, Ibadan.
The meeting, attended by the Rector, management, and selected student stakeholders, aimed to address grievances raised in a memorandum issued by the Students Union Government on December 4th, 2023.
At the start of the meeting, selected student stakeholders had the opportunity to voice their complaints directly to the school management. However, a disruptive incident involving one of the students truncated the proceedings. Despite this setback, significant resolutions were achieved.
Key outcomes include; the removal of the 20,000 naira penalty fee for late tuition payments for the 2023/2024 academic session. Additionally, the late course registration fee of 11,000 Naira for both semesters in the last session, has been reduced to a single payment, allowing activation for registration in both semesters. Students who already paid for both semesters can seek a refund for one.
Furthermore, the institution’s health center is set to be equipped, as the necessary budget has been approved. The Students Union Government expressed gratitude for these positive developments and pledged to swiftly address the rest concerns raised.
In the memorandum signed by the General Secretary, Wasiu Azeez A., the Executive President, Oloyede Okiki Joshua, and the Public Relations Officer, Bankole Mubarak Isola, students are urged to remain calm and patient, as efforts are continually made to reach a final resolution.
