In the light of the introduction of E-learning initiative by the management of The Polytechnic, Ibadan due to the lockdown poised by the coronavirus pandemic. Press Council correspondent spoke with various students on the assessment of the initiative. “Most of our lecturers have been sending us PDFs without explanations. Some that try to explain will just send a voice note of like 50seconds for a PDF of 50 pages” Olaniran a student of Civil Engineering said while speaking with Press Council correspondent.

While MsAdemola Oluwafunke assessed, “We have large turn up of students though not everybody participated due to network issue. Also, we enjoyed Whatsapp lectures than the ones on other platforms.
Olagbenro from the faculty of Engineering Technology HND 2 Full Time said “some of us are complaining about a lot of assignment with a deadline and no data.
The assignments are graded and our score is being sent to us. While Ogunwale Matthew revealed, “We enjoyed the class but most of the courses is a voice note message, in which most students complain of data to download the voice note. Although a lecturer has been using Google classroom to give us assessments and it’s nice.
Finally, Olasupo Adekunle stated that “We enjoyed the class but we’re yet to receive any lecture(s) from GNS.” These aforementioned statements are the assessment of the E-classes introduced on 12th April 2020 by management in order to fill the void created by the lockdown and prevent redundancy on the part of the students and keeping them abreast of their academic activities.

In a phone interview with Dr Mrs Akinola the Dean of the Faculty of Business and Communication Studies she said. “this is a new initiative in the institution, we want all students to take it seriously and utilize maximally. It has been a reoccurring issue where some students complain that they’re unable to finish the syllabus for the semester therefore, this will go a long way on the part of both the lecturer and students to cover some topics in their respective discipline.”
However, the Students’ Union Government led by Comrade Fadare Blessing eulogised the effort of the management towards the initiative and assessed the possible challenges encountered by students of the institution. “We received a lot of complaint from students when we did our assessment through a goggle form hence it’s all about the online lecture but we’ll appeal to them to continue striving to adapt to the measures taken and we pray that the coronavirus departs from our land very soon so that normal academic activities take place soon”, The President said.
Apparently, with the series of consideration and deliberations on the e-classes, it suffices to call on the students to continue to support the efforts of the lecturers and for the tutor, we plead to them that they make the classes more coherent, laudable and interactive because the ends justify the means.
As the Lockdown continues, every student is enjoined to stay home, practice social distancing, hygienic environment, obey the guideline and measures stipulated but the government, health officials and stay safe.
The Current State of Polyibadan and her Contributions on Coronavirus
Press Council took to the street of media platforms of students in the citadel of technological innovation to enquire about their knowledge on the contributions of Polyibadan towards curbing the pandemic in our polity and world at large. Unfortunately, most of them are naive to the happening and impartation thus, despite the lockdown, the management has been able to come up with a hand sanitizer available now at the Vocational Skills and Entrepreneurship Study Centre (VSESC) of the institution.
Although, the current state of the campus is a deserted one as the gross impacts of the pandemic has transcended to the nooks and cranny of all sectors in the country. It’s evident there is some unfinished plans and actions table by the management which one of them is the resuscitation of old students portal so that immediately resumptive periods comes which we await with our fingers crossed all registrations will be done easily and stress-free.
Nevertheless, we pray for Nigeria and the world at large that the pandemic will be a story to tell, we’ll live to tell it and our society, the country will regain her normalcy very soon.
