The Faculty of Science emerged winner of 2019 Asiwaju Inter-Faculty Speech Contest organised by Junior Chamber International The Polytechnic, Ibadan chapter on Wednesday 28th of August, 2019 at Assembly Hall, North Campus of the institution.

“Junior Chamber International, The Polytechnic, Ibadan organised the programme on the occasion of bringing oratory display and imbibing educative prowess among students of the Institution,” this was contained in the speech of JCIN The Polytechnic, Ibadan President, Miss Ogunleye Tifeoluwa Olamitayo.

“This is a literary competition that brings the students together to write and talk out solutions to the contemporary issues in the society. Its essence is to promote literary activities among students on campus, and as well, being active citizens by contributing their quota to the development of the country through writing, speaking, and listening.” She furthered.

Having two representatives from each Faculty, the Inter-Faculty speech contest was in 2 phases, where the participants firstly spoke on “WILL RUGA SETTLEMENT BRING AN END TO INSURGENCY IN NIGERIA?” During this section, two faculties were eliminated which were Faculty of Business and Communication Studies and Faculty of Environment Studies.

The next phase of the speech contest which was also the final stage had the participants from Faculty of Science, Faculty of Financial and Management Studies, and Faculty of Engineering debated on “SOCIAL MEDIA HAVE MORE DISADVANTAGES THAN ADVANTAGES FOR STUDENTS.”

In the final stage of the contest, after all displays of oratory proficiency by the participants, the Faculty of Science emerged as the winner with 82 points, Faculty of Engineering came second with 71.6 points, and the Faculty of Financial and Management Studies came third with 66 points.

This edition of the 2019 Inter-Faculty Speech contest, as earlier drawn from the statement of the Team Leader of the contest in person of Mr. Malik Kolade, that this will be a yearly edition just to inculcate literary activities among students of the institution.
