In promoting good Moral and value system on campus, The polytechnic, Ibadan Counseling unit organized a day seminar for the ND1 and HND 1 students on the 26th September, 2019 which was held at the one thousand capacity building, The polytechnic, Ibadan.
The program which was aimed at directing towards inculcating good behavior among students on campus was scheduled to educate students on preventive measures for examination malpractice, image booster for the institution as well as redeeming the good name of the institution by inculcating skills for success in study and examination also embracing peace on campus.
In his opening remarks, The Rector of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Prof kazeem Adekunle who was represented by the acting Deputy Rector, Mr. Femi ipadeola emphasized on the needs for students to be aware of the decision they take in life. According to him, it is imperative for every student to be aware of their state of wellbeing.
He stated further “for a student to be mentally sound, have peace of mind, as well as to be fulfilled and successful, such student should be aware of people who know him, who he knows and what he knows because all these questions have impacts on a students journey in life “
While speaking at the event, the Dean Students Affairs, Dr. Sikiru Ajibola reinstated that the institutions goals are not just to produce graduates but to build leaders of generations, developing youth for social development as well as curbing bad behaviour on campus and off campus.
In his paper presentation on the topic “Menace of examination malpractice; the way forward,” an associate Professor of counseling psychology from the university of Ibadan Dr. Rotimi Animasahun emphasized on factors contributing to examination malpractice on campus which include; academic incompetent, laziness on the part of students, poor study habits, poor time management, as well as truancy, peer group influence and over ambitions.
He highlighted further, “The alarming rate of the increase in the incidence of examination malpractice in the country call for urgent attention of all well-meaning and patriotic citizens to include ethnical value of self-worth, dignity of labour, integrity and personal responsibility, value of education, amongst others.
Speaking on the topic “Curbing disruptive and mal-adaptive behavior in the Polytechnic, Ibadan, The police public relations officer Oyo state, Mr. Oluwagbemiga Fadeyi, who was represented by Mrs. Abosede said Students do not always choose to be successful but they choose behaviors that limit their success.
She further explained that as members of the campus community who enjoy a continuous, ongoing relationship with students, academic advisors are in a unique position to encourage attitudes of positive, adaptive perfectionism in advisees.
The program also had in attendance the Rector of the institution, the Registrar, Mrs. Modupe Fawale, other Management Staff, Deans of Faculties, Heads of Departments, guests from all walks of life and students.
