Following the growing concerns about the frequent police interventions in student areas, particularly by the Police of Iyaganku Police station, the Students’ Union President, Comrade Oloyede Okikiola, has displayed proactiveness to resolve the lingering problem.
A concerted effort is underway to address the issue and ensure the safety and well-being of students residing Apete and environs.
In response to the concerns raised by students residing Apete axis, Comrade Okikiola has addressed the students populace via his WhatsApp status, urging the students to remain calm, as he has conversed with appropriate quarters towards finding a resolution to the recurring police intrusions.
According to the status update, Com. Oloyede Okikiola reportedly contacted the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Zone D Coordinator, Comrade Alao John, and the Oyo State Chairman, Joint Campus Committee (JCC) chairman, Comrade Ridwan Ademola, to bring them onboard with him to curb the indiscriminate intrusive activities of the Police force.
Guaranteeing the Students of his promise, Com. Oloyede disclosed that he shall be having a meeting with the Oyo state Commissioner of Police on this matter.
“A meeting with the Commissioner of Police has been scheduled for this week Friday. During this meeting, the concerns raised by students regarding the police’s intrusive actions will be addressed, and steps will be taken to prevent such incidents in the future.”
The SUG president has assured students that every possible action is being taken to ensure a safe and conducive environment for learning and living.
Students are encouraged to remain patient and composed as the situation is being addressed at the highest levels of authority.
As the issue progresses, updates will be provided to keep the student community informed about the developments. It is hoped that the collaborative efforts of all parties involved will result in a positive resolution that promotes the well-being and security of students of The Polytechnic Ibadan living off campus.
