It can be recalled vividly that on Thursday, November 9th, 2023, students, mostly hostel occupants, were chased back to their various Halls of Residence by the school’s security officers due to unnecessary loitering that has become the culture of these hostelites.
However, the occupants of Olori, Ramat and Unity Halls of Residence have over the years made it habitual to hang around, meet with their friends to engage in immoral acts at different hideous locations including; the Love garden, the entrance of Ramat and Olori Halls of Residence, and the corners of Arts and Design department, amongst other locations.
Meanwhile, alot of anomalies and waywardness take place—as it is popularly said; “Evil thrives better in the dark”. There have been reports of extortion and bullying, but still, hostel occupants would not desist from setting out at night, and continuing to expose themselves to these vices.
The Chief Security Officer of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Mr. Waheed Ojerinde Ajao and two other officers on the night of Thursday, 9th of November, 2023, deemed it fit to chase students into their various Halls of Residence, warning them against unnecessary hangouts at night.
“I want to know those that extort students and bully them, especially at nights. We need to know who is who, and that is why we don’t encourage unreasonable roaming about at night”, the CSO opined.
THE APPREHENSION OF KOREDE AND HIS CO-SMOKER.
Bamidele Joseph Korede is a chronic Indian hemp smoker and an illegal occupant of the Unity Hall of Residence. Apart from smoking, Bamidele Joseph Korede, an HND2 Public Administration student has been alleged to have instigated a series of illegal acts that ranges from; disconnection of electricity installations, forcefully obtaining money from students, bullying and harassing fresh students. Beyond this, it was found out on the night of last Thursday, that both Korede and his cohort, Boluwatife, also sell Indian hemp.
Bamidele Joseph Korede has a smoking partner, Samson Oladele Boluwatife, a student of Arts and Design department (HND 2) in the Unity Hostel. The indiscriminate behaviors of these students have made the school security apprehend and detain them.
According to the Chief Security Officer of the institution’s security department, on the night of Thursday, some set of students were chased away from the Love Garden at the North campus on the night Korede and his accomplice were caught beating up an ND1 student. The Chief Security Officer, Mr. Waheed Ojerinde said they had been warning the culprits for a long time, but they refuse to turn a new leaf. However, this is more reason as to why they’ve warned hostelites to avoid unnecessary hanging around outside their various hostels at night, and more importantly, to make it easy to apprehend the real faces behind bullying, just like Korede.
The Executive Hall Warden of Unity Hall of Residence, Mr. Okeyinka Sunday Tayo said; that Korede always harasses and bullies students in the hostel premises, especially the newly admitted students, he added that he had been warned severally, but he never yields.
“Bamidele Joseph Korede has been reported to the school management but he refuses to turn a new leaf, despite the series of advice and counselling they gave him”. Mr. Sunday stated further that apprehending him this time around will lead him out of the institution, “Enough is enough!”, he retorted.
THE BULLY BECAME THE VICTIM.
It was also reported that on Friday, 10th of November,2023, one Rafiu Ayomide (ND 1 Art and Design students), an occupant of Unity Hall of Residence was seriously threatened by his unfriendly roommate who they have been cohabitating for about one week to be precise.
Unfortunately for the bully, as he tried hitting Ayomide that afternoon, claiming that he’s been rude, he hitted his arm against the room’s burglar proof as Ayomide resisted him from beating him.
I didn’t intend to wound him, he is even huge than someone I can fight on a normal day, but he’s a nonsense boy, why is he trying to treating me and talk to me rudely, it is only God that wanted to save me from him that made him hit his arm against the burglar proof, Ayomide recounted.
