The Head Of Department, Mr Olusoji Olatunji popularly known as KOB(King Of Boys) in his speech encouraged students to always maintain protected sex if it can’t be avoided and focus on academic excellence

He disclosed this during the departmental orientation organised by the executive members of Mass Communication Department led by Com. Salami Idris of the 2018/2019 session with the theme; The Inexplicable Role Of Mass Communication In Development Growth Of The Nation was held on Thursday, 21st March, 2019 at the sewage hall 3

In the HOD’s address, which was to buttress the speech made by the representative from the ministry of health, he advised students to be focused on their primary and major assignments which is academic excellence. Also, he declared the availability of condoms to ensure that sex is protected to avoid STD’S, unwanted pregnancy and psychological trauma

In her address, the guest speaker, Mrs Stella Oyebanji gave a detailed lecture on the theme; The inexplicable role of mass communication in development growth of the nation. In her words”…without proper communication, development will not occur”. This explains the main and basic need for mass communication in a geographical entity which desires development and growth. “Poor nations have contended that the failure of economic progress, which should have followed the attainment of independence, can be seen in there failure to control indigenous information systems”. In summary,”…Mass communication can be used either as a stimulant or tranquilliser. For the purposes of development, it can serve as a catalyst by generating information within the people so that they can define there own problems”. The speech was ended by a charge-“if you stop learning, you start dying”

The orientation became more interactive when the representative from the ministry of health gave a short speech which. She engaged in benefits of family planning and envisaged on protected sex and it’s benefits. Accompanying the speech were packets of condoms brought from the ministry and distributed for the student who were interested in having it.

Making the orientation interesting were presentations from students, invited artists, dance competitions, fastest fingers music interlude amidst other fascinating activities.

Amidst the important personalities of the orientation were the HOD, Mr Olusoji Olatunji; Guest Speaker, Mrs Stella Oyebanji; Staff Advisers, Alhaji Najeemdeen Adunola, Rev. Taiwo Olaniran; ex-ASCOM President, Owolabi Samson; SUG President, Akadiri Bayonle flanked with other Students’ Union Executives; FBCS Executives; and Mr and Miss ASCOM who were given a grand entrance.
