In a recent development that has brought much relief to the student body, the Students’ Union Government (SUG) of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, has successfully championed the removal of late registration and add/delete fees from the school portal. This initiative, achieved through the collaborative efforts between the Students’ Union Executive (SUE), Students’ Representative Council (SRC), Faculty Presidents, Departmental Presidents, and the school Management, aims to reduce the financial burden on students and enhance their academic experience.
This milestone was formally announced in a memorandum issued by the Union on June 10, 2025. The Union advised students to ensure they make fee submissions through the correct semester portal to avoid transactional errors, especially after observing cases of students who mistakenly paid second-semester fees via the first-semester portal.
“Before proceeding with payments of fees, please ensure you are on the correct semester portal to avoid errors and ensure your payments are processed accurately,” the memo reads.
The SUG expressed its gratitude to all stakeholders involved in achieving the fee removal and reaffirmed its commitment to keep advocating for students’ welfare. Students were also encouraged to contact their departmental executives or student representatives for any concerns relating to payment of fees or portal issues.
Meanwhile, amidst ongoing issues surrounding the collection of institutional ID cards and the delayed disbursement of NELFUND loan, Press Council, The Polytechnic, Ibadan, held a session with the SUE President, Comrade Oladipupo Olamide to address the ruminating concern about students.
According to a recent memo issued by the institution, students who have not paid their tuition fees will not be eligible to collect their ID cards. This policy has become a significant hurdle for students who applied for the NELFUND loan and are still awaiting disbursement.
In response, the SUE President revealed that the Union had met with the CEO of NELFUND, Mr. Akintunde, who assured them that the loan disbursement process has been refined to make it seamless for students of The Polytechnic, Ibadan. According to Mr. Akintunde, the loan disbursement is expected within a few weeks and will be paid directly to the school Management rather than to individual students.
Regarding the penalties for unpaid tuition fees and ID card access restrictions, the SUE President confirmed ongoing discussions with the Management. He emphasized that the Union is working tirelessly to ensure students are not unfairly penalized due to delays beyond their control.
In conclusion, with the successful removal of certain fees and proactive engagement on critical issues like NELFUND disbursement and ID card collection, the Students’ Union continues to demonstrate its dedication to student welfare and responsive leadership.
