The chairman, graduation planning committee, Dr. Mojeed K. Lawal, in a Press conference today, the 11th of December, 2023, revealed that The Polytechnic, Ibadan is set to receive His Excellency Dr. (Engr) Oluwaseyi Abiodun Makinde as the Special Guest of Honor, at the Institution’s Convocation Ceremony that will be held on Friday, the 15th of December, 2023.

In his briefing, Dr. Lawal, who is also the Dean of the Faculty of Financial Management Studies, explained that the Convocation Ceremony is a ritual in all higher institution of learning to celebrate the completion of a certificate or diploma at the National and Higher National Diploma Levels. He further stated that the press conference was to avail the activities lined up for this combined Convocation ceremony.

The Chairman, Graduation Planning Committee, Dr. Lawal stressed that on Wednesday, the 13th of December, 2023, the graduation lecture will be delivered by His Excellency, Ambassador, Major General Ashimiyu Adebayo Olaniyi (RTD), who will be speaking on the topic; “Leadership Evolution: Empowering Change Agent for a Transformative Future”.
Also, a group of alumni of the institution, specifically the ’90/’93 set have volunteered to plant trees across the length and breadth of the Institution. The effort is a plausible addition to what the alumni of the institution had done to support the academic and social development of the Institution. The Institution had received donations ranging from building offices, class rooms, equipments, books, scholarship, to mention a few. “However, we look forward to more support from them”, he said.

During the press conference, it was also revealed that the convocation ceremony will feature the awarding of diplomas, certificates and prizes to the 2018/19, 2019/20, 2020/21, 2022/23 graduands.
In addition, His Excellency, Dr. (Engr.) Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde, the Executive Governor of Oyo State, will be expected to commission the 72 rooms Office Complex built from internally generated revenue of the institution, which was also named after the Governor (Seyi Makinde Office Complex). The Governor will also commission the institution’s radio station (REIZ 101.9 FM) which has secured an operating licence from the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC).

The Press briefing, which was held at the Board of Studies, Central Administrative Building, The Polytechnic, Ibadan, had in attendance; the Deputy Registrar, Exams and Records, Mr. Adewunmi Ogunjimi, the Chief Librarian representing the Polytechnic Librarian, Mr. Kayode Joseph, the Secretary of the Planning Committee, Dr. Biodun Adegbuyi, the Chairman, Committee of Deans, Dr. B.A. Oseni, the Institution’s Public Relations Officer, Alhaji Soladoye Adewole.
