It took a remarkable early goal in first half of the match for The Polytechnic, Ibadan team to defeat The Oke-Ogun Polytechnic, Saki team in the ongoing NIPOGA tournament at Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, Ondo state on 21st October, 2019.
It was five minutes into the game, The Polytechnic, Ibadan team took the lead after The Oke-Ogun Polytechnic, Saki team defender was pinged for holding Adeniyi in the box. It resulted into a penalty and Odedele Israel took the penalty kick to put the team ahead of their counterpart.
The goal which was not only the earliest goal of the tournament so far, but also the fastest penalty ever scored at the NIPOGA football game. The game dragged on and ended in a 1 – 0 win for The Polytechnic, Ibadan team.
In a chat with one of the players who identified himself as Ade on phone said “well, the start , all thanks to the Rector of the Great Institution for his words of encouragement , and to the coaching crew, and finally to the players, the determination was high, four months of intense training with the determination of coming to qualify , and the sky is our starting point, because we got the 3 points we deserved today.”
He further said “we will not relent till we bring home the qualification ticket. As for the atmosphere, we got a good weather which helped us because the pitch is kind of bad, but the sunny atmosphere was able to dry up the wet pitch”
The football tournament continue tomorrow at the ongoing NIPOGA game as The Polytechnic, Ibadan Football team male counterparts with be taking on The Polytechnic, Ede at 2pm while the female team will be taking on Polytechnic Ede as well.
