Abuja, Nigeria – May 16, 2025 – The National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) has issued a stern call for the immediate resignation of Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), citing gross incompetence and widespread student suffering under his leadership.
In a statement signed by Acting NAPS President, Sen. Comr. Ishola Usman Adewale (Inverter), and e-published by Chief Press Secretary Comr. Lanre Idris Mustapha (Legend), the student body expressed dismay at the recent 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) crisis. A server breach allegedly led to the mass failure of over 379,000 candidates, shattering academic dreams and, tragically, contributing to the suicide of an affected student.
NAPS decried JAMB’s administrative negligence, accusing the board of prioritizing revenue generation over student welfare. The group highlighted unresolved complaints regarding name corrections and local government updates—services students paid for but never received—branding the digital correction system as ineffective.
They also condemned the persistent relevance of post-UTME screenings, arguing that the existence of secondary exams undermines JAMB’s original purpose as the sole criterion for admission into tertiary institutions.
“Prof. Oloyede wept before cameras. But what about the 379,000 students who cried in silence?” the statement read.
NAPS demanded Oloyede’s voluntary resignation or threatened a nationwide mass protest by students. The group urged the Ministry of Education, National Assembly, and civil society to intervene and advocate for an education system that values accountability, fairness, and students’ futures.
“Enough is enough. Nigerian students deserve better,” NAPS concluded.
