Water!Water!!Water!!! While some are shouting Fan her oooo with her named being shouted, Aishat! Ayo! Wake up !!! Open your eyes! Bike!! Medical!! Carry her!!! all these summed up the atmosphere, the outcry and situation of the lecture room of Office Technology and Management (OTM), behind the block for Department of Local Government and Development Studies. On Wednesday 26th February, 2020 around 2:30pm while lecture was ongoing in their class, suddenly a female DPP student (Aishat Ayomide) fainted and the whole lecture room was clouded with hullabaloo and commotion to the extent the environment was polluted with the noise of her cohorts.
Furthermore, while speaking with the Press correspondene, the ND one class representative of Office Technology and Management told Press men that the name of the lady that fainted is Aishat Ayomide, “I don’t know what led to her collapse,” he said.
Also, some eyes witnesses said Ayomide sat in the third pew and she was blowing herself with hand fan and suddenly she just syncoped. Another eyes witness described Ayomide as a jovial and amiable person.
It was of notice that , on Friday 21st of February, 2020 a student (unnamed) also fainted in front of sewage hall. She was a student of the Department of Accountancy. She also collapsed while they were dragging and struggling to inscribe their names on the attendance before the lecturer left their class.
Although, Ayomide fainted right in front of the lecturer but the lecturer also tried to save her soul. Some Samaritans in her class quickly called a bike man and rushed her to the health center for the first aid and proper further treatment.
Similarly, the heat cum hot weather in Ibadan and other parts of contemporary Nigeria is like hell fire. It can described the temperature as bread factory due to the fact that you hardly see people without hand fan yet, hand fan can’t quench the burning weather in Nigeria these days. The hot weather also caused too much sweats.
However, overpopulation plus hot weather in a congested and unventilated environment can cause health issues and epidemic. Thus, the persistency of this issue is noticed to be caused by some factors, which includes; the heat in this season which tends to be very hot and anyone who is not healthy is prone to collapse, particularly inside the overpopulated atmosphere while the second factor is the densely population of the students in a congested class of learning. A class that can’t absorb more than 50 students in a conducive manner are forced to contain more than 100 of students which is detrimental and antithetical to their health. Some classes are known to be overcrowded, but necessary actions must be taken by relevant stakeholders by putting a square peg in square holes so that epidemics and congested classes will not lead to Health issues which is dangerous to the health status of students.
In conclusion, Press Council is now using this medium to tell all the students of The Polytechnic, Ibadan to take a good care of their health, because health is wealth.
