The Student Union Government of the Polytechnic Ibadan has recently held its orientation and a first of its kind talent hunt sponsored by the Safeboda, for the institution’s students.

Thirty-two students across all faculties in the institutions participated in the one-day event which was held at 1000 capacity hall, middle belt, The Polytechnic Ibadan.

The event featured spoken words, breakdance, hip-hop dance, music and comedy by individual students.

Confidence

The competition was in three stages; eighteen participants qualified for the first round, seven qualified for the second round while the third round featured the three winners: Ybass from Mass communication who showcased his hip-hop music talent, Confidence, Fuji talent from Mechanical engineering who got everyone on their feet and Abibat from music department who blew away the crowd with her amazing dance steps.

Abibat

One of the winners, Olayomi Johnson Oluwasogo popularly known as Ybass, who could not suppress his happiness expressed his gratitude.

“I’m so happy because this would be the first time I would come out as FIRST in all talent hunts I’ve attended. I put my belief in God that I will make it to the end and I appreciate God for the blessings over me. It’s not easy but all thanks to God Almighty for making the talents he blessed me with fruitful.”, He said.

Ybass

He continued as he appreciated the Student Union Government and Safeboda for the opportunity.

“I appreciate SUG for this great work and good plans for promotion my career beyond my expectations, May God Almighty Strengthen them. My appreciation also goes to Safeboda for the gifts and their strong support, May God Almighty Bless Them.” He added.

The Student Union President, Comrade Adedamola Abdul Azeez Adedeji, in an interview with the press council correspondence, said the event was held to showcase the talent of the Student of The Polytechnic Ibadan.

“We organized this event with Safeboda as our sponsors, to help showcase our student’s talent in terms of music, comedy, dance and more. We did this to bring out the best in them.”

“It is the first of its kind and we thank God for making it a success. We are moving higher because our winners will surely feature with top celebrities and we are on the move to make that happen.” He said.

The SUG president further emphasized that the winners went home with gift prizes and ambassador deals, courtesy of Safeboda and a semester scholarship, courtesy of The Student Union, The Polytechnic Ibadan.

He however urged other students to try to showcase their talents because it might be a stepping stone to their greater heights.
