The Polytechnic Ibadan on Friday staged its 40th Convocation Ceremony, marking another milestone in the institution’s academic journey and celebrating years of sustained growth and stability.
The ceremony took place at the institution’s main auditorium 1000 Capacity and commenced at 11:00 a.m. with a formal academic procession that featured members of the Governing Council, principal officers, academic staff, alumni representatives, and graduating students.
Top government officials, traditional rulers, and education stakeholders were present, including representatives of the Oyo State Government, the Chairman of the Governing Council, Dr. Lanre Nassar, the Acting Rector, Dr. Taiwo Abideen Lasisi, the Deputy Rector, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Olaide Salawu, and the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja II.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Nassar commended the institution’s management for its prudent leadership and acknowledged the support of the state government in advancing the polytechnic’s mandate. He noted that the institution has recorded notable progress in accreditation outcomes, administrative efficiency, and academic partnerships.
He encouraged the graduating students to approach life beyond the campus with discipline and determination, while advising parents and guardians to continue offering guidance and support as their wards build their careers.
In his convocation address, the Acting Rector, Dr. Lasisi, reported improvements in campus security and student conduct, attributing the peaceful academic environment to strengthened cooperation among management, staff, and students. He described the academic session as one marked by institutional consolidation and renewed focus.
The Rector also expressed appreciation to the Oyo State Government for the regular payment of staff salaries, noting that it has contributed significantly to staff motivation and productivity. He further appealed for additional infrastructural development to support the polytechnic’s expanding academic activities.
Delivering a goodwill message, the Ooni of Ife urged the graduands to remain steadfast, purposeful, and conscious of the values instilled in them by the institution. He reminded them that their conduct beyond the campus would reflect both their personal upbringing and the reputation of The Polytechnic Ibadan.
The monarch later presented cash prizes to outstanding graduating students across faculties, as well as to lecturers recognized for exceptional academic contributions during the session.
The ceremony also featured the formal presentation of graduands by the Deans of various faculties and the conferment of honorary awards on distinguished individuals, including the Ooni of Ife, an alumnus of the institution.
The 40th Convocation Ceremony reaffirmed The Polytechnic Ibadan’s commitment to academic excellence and its role in preparing graduates to make meaningful contributions to national development.
