The Polytechnic, Ibadan Students Union, led by Com. Oyekan Tobiloba organized a welcome party for fresh students of the Institution on the night of Wednesday, the 6th of March, 2024. The event tagged; ‘SUG Freshers Night Rave’ was facilitated by the Union’s Social Director, Com. Kudaisi Mutiu Adekunle. The event was staged at Cruzer Lounge and Bar, Jericho, Ibadan.

Mr. and Miss Fresher’s contest, an aspect of the ‘Freshers Night Rave’ featured a contest between four participants; Ayeni Oluwabukola Ruth from OTM department, Obayemi Samuel Samson from Business Administration Department, Hammed Sofiat Adewunmi from Banking and Finance Department, and Adedeji Emmanuel Oluwaseyifunmitan from OTM Department. They appeared before the stage elegantly and beautifully in different attires for different sections of the contest, alongside with intellectual questions and answers.

Adedeji Emmanuel of OTM became the first runner up for the Mr. Fresher category, while Ayeni Oluwabukola Ruth, as well, emerged the first runner up for the Miss Fresher category.

In the end, Obayemi Samuel Samson of Business Administration Department and Hammed Sofiat Adewunmi of Banking and Finance Department were crowned, as they also received packages and incentives attached having emerged the Mr and Miss Fresher for the 2023/24 academic session.

While speaking with a Press Council correspondent, the SUG Social Director, Com. Kudaisi Mutiu, also known as ‘Kcmart’, emphasized that the event was done in tandem with what he promised during his manifesto. “I brought in a new initiative which is the idea of Mr. and Miss Fresher, which also is the first of its kind in this citadel of learning, so as to strengthen relationships with fresh students, as they have representatives among the Students Union of the Institution.


Also, I incorporated scholarship and entertainment opportunities into the Mr. and Miss Fresher programme, whereby the winners’ tuition fees would be paid by the Students’ Union body and they will represent and also be the face of fresh students on campus”, he further stressed.
