The Student Union Government (SUG) of The Polytechnic, Ibadan has announced an increment in the union dues from ₦500 to ₦700, effective from February 9, 2024.
The decision was communicated to the students through a memo signed by the SUG President (Elect), Oyekan Tobiloba, the General Secretary (Elect), Akinwale Fawaz, and the Public Relations Officer (Elect), Kadelu Oluwole, on February 9, 2024.
The memo stated that the increment was made after careful consideration of the financial needs and student welfarism, and listed four reasons for the hike:
- Enhanced Student Services: The SUG said that the additional funds will enable them to improve and expand the range of services provided to students, such as academic support, career counseling, and extracurricular activities.
- Infrastructure Development: The SUG said that a portion of the increased dues will be used to enhance campus facilities, such as classrooms, laboratories, hostels, and recreational areas, to create a better learning and living environment for all students.
- Quality Programs and Events: The SUG said that with the increased funds, they aim to organize more high-quality educational programs, career events, and initiatives that will enrich the overall college experience of the students.
- Sustainability of SUG Initiatives: The SUG said that the increment is necessary to sustain the ongoing and future projects initiated by the union that directly benefit the student body, such as scholarships, bursaries, health insurance, and welfare packages.
The memo assured the students that the decision to raise the dues was not made lightly, and that the SUG is committed to utilizing the additional funds responsibly and transparently.
The memo also advised the students to make payment at the Poly Microfinance Bank with Account Number 1100001297 and visit the union building for receipt conversion.
The memo expressed appreciation for the understanding and cooperation of the students, and stated that the increment will ultimately contribute to a more vibrant and enriched student experience at The Polytechnic, Ibadan.
