The Students’ Union Government of The Polytechnic Ibadan has written to Governor Seyi Makinde, requesting a meeting to discuss the proposed renaming of the institution. The letter, dated June 30, 2025, was signed by the President of the Students’ Union Government (SUG) Comr. Oladipupo Olamide Daniel.

According to the letter, the students are deeply concerned about the decision to rename the polytechnic, citing the potential loss of heritage, history, and image associated with the name “The Polytechnic Ibadan.” The students believe that renaming the institution would erase its identity and legacy built over 50 years.

The SUG President, Comr. Oladipupo requested a meeting with the governor to discuss the matter and explore alternative solutions. The proposed meeting aims to foster dialogue and understanding, reduce pressure from stakeholders and alumni, and prevent potential misrepresentation by external parties.
The students’ union government expressed hope that the meeting would be a significant step towards resolving the matter amicably. The letter was copied to the Commissioner for Education in Oyo State.
