Under the leadership of Students’ Union President, Comr. Fagbemi Nurudeen Ojo, and other student leaders, an inspection team has launched a three-in-one regulatory exercise across The Polytechnic, Ibadan, to boost student welfare and shield the campus community from economic exploitation..
On February 5, 2026, the exercise, tagged “Keep The Polytechnic Ibadan Clean,” focused on monitoring the prices of goods and services within the campus. Union officials visited cafés, shops, and restaurants to review transaction costs, particularly printing and photocopying services. while also assessing hygiene standards in food preparation areas.
Speaking during the inspection, the Café Zonal Chairman at Sewage, Akeem Shodeyinde, revealed that the union has introduced a fixed price structure for all café transactions on campus. According to him, the initiative is designed to end arbitrary pricing that often places financial strain on students.
He added that clear penalties have been outlined for defaulters, including temporary closure of shops for two days and referral to the institution’s security authorities.
Students were also advised to avoid patronising cafés that do not display visible price lists, as price transparency has now been made compulsory.
Café owners, in turn, appealed to the management of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, to provide stable electricity to campus cafés, noting that reliable power supply would significantly reduce the cost of printing and photocopying services essential to academic work.
Students were further cautioned to remain vigilant against fake café operators who exploit unsuspecting customers, and to report suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities.
Through this initiative, the Students’ Union Executive has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting students’ interests and ensuring a fair, safe, and conducive environment for learning and business activities within The Polytechnic, Ibadan.
