Following the agitations and requests of student leaders of The Polytechnic, Ibadan in a meeting with the Dean Students Affairs on the 25th of October 2023; on Monday, 30th of October, 2023, the Directorate of the Students Affairs met with members of the school management that constitute the electoral body, at the Faculty of Science Conference Hall, to deliberate on strategies for the electioneering process for the long awaited SUE/SRC elections.

The Dean, Students Affairs, Mr. Makinde John, being the Chairman of the meeting, opened discussions by stating the purpose of the meeting. He proceeded to read out the proposed time-table for the electioneering process and presented it for necessary deliberations and modification.

Other agenda of the meeting include; The rules and sanctions for violating the rules of the 2023/2024 Students’ Union Elections, Eligibility criteria for aspirants, and Available positions for the SUG elections.

According to the deliberation of the house, the proposed time-table which dates from 30th of October to 1st of December, 2023, will be reviewed and compressed. This was considered due to the urgency of the 2023/2024 SU elections, and the approaching first semester examinations.

Notable mentions were made on the sanctions for electoral violators. The house acknowledged their displeasure towards how during Students’ Union elections, all sorts of violation to the school and electoral rules are propagated. The Dean, Students Affairs, after agreeing with the whole house on realistic sanctions, assured that no offender caught and found guilty will be spared, thereby stating that thorough awareness should be made in all Departments and Faculties represented in the school.

He also envisioned the possibility of completing the whole electioneering process in two weeks, urging that all hands should be on deck in preparation for the Sales of forms, Screening of Aspirants, Press Conference/Manifesto and Election day.

In conclusion, the Dean mentioned that; information about the next sitting where the new time-table will be presented and thereafter publicized, will be communicated soon.
