The Polytechnic, Ibadan in a somber display of unity and grief, the students of the Office Technology Management (OTM) department, led by their President, Com. Adeneye Akorede organized a candlelight walk today, July 10, 2024, to mourn the sudden passing of their Head of Department, Dr. Fakorede David.
The walk, as staged began by 5:00 pm at the Middle Belt, Music Bus Stop. The procession led participants to the OTM department and finally the Florence Ajimobi ICT Centre. The event was graced by the presence of the Student Union Government President, Com . Oyekan Tobiloba, FBCS President, Com. Oyinlolu Michael, other departmental presidents, and student leaders who came to show their support and solidarity.
Participants clad in black attire, held candles and walked in togetherness, paying respects to their beloved Head of Department. The walk was accompanied by solemn music and tributes, as the students remembered Dr. David’s impact on their academic journey.
The OTM President, Adeneye Akorede while speaking with Press Council members, eulogized Dr. David’s dedication, expertise, and mentorship, which had inspired countless students.
Messan Joy, an HND 1 student of OTM department also offered condolences, acknowledging Dr. David’s contributions to their academic live as student and to the department at large.
In the remark of the Immediate Past President of the department, Com. Adekunle Toheeb, said the deceased has been a great father and mentor to him, who also sees everyone as his children and always there for them both in the department, institution and even outside the institution.
The candlelight walk was a poignant testament to the bond between Dr. David and his students. As the flames flickered, the students’ faces were illuminated with a mix of sadness and gratitude, reflecting on the lasting impact of their HOD’s legacy.
The Polytechnic community continues to mourn the loss of Dr. Fakorede David, and the OTM department’s candlelight walk will be remembered as a touching tribute to his memory.
