It was a sensational atmosphere in the football space as Lionel messi and Jurgen klopp were announced the winners of 2019 FIFA best player and coach award respectively on the 23rd September, 2019 at the La Scale Opera house in Milan

The 32- year old Lionel Messi who had an incredible performance in 2018/2019 season with the total score 51 goals, 22 assist in 50 games and winning two domestic trophy for his team (Barcelona).

In respect to this, our correspondent reports the reactions of some football fans on campus on the award. According to our respondents, the award was seen as an undeserved one.

Aremu ishola said, Ronaldos performance last season was not recognized and he was not given world best. The rate at which Messi is being hyped and the fact he has been recognized as the world best is not appropriate as his efforts cannot be measured up to Ronaldos in the last season. But there is nothing we can do anymore and moreover, I see that as another challenge for Ronaldo which I believe he would most definitely double his hustle.”

While speaking with our correspondent, Tunde Akinyemi said “I don’t think Messi deserve the award. Van Dijk should have won it because he won UEFA Champions League and also, he won the PFA player of the year with this incredible performance in his first season in EPL. It is not easy and it is incredible on his part.”

In the same vein, Ridwan Afolabi stated that as a die-hard Ronaldo fan, he would have given it to Cristano but he believes with Van Dijks performance last season for his club in the league and Champion league, he should have been given that award and not Messi.”

In a chat with Samuel Olaniyan, a passionate football fan, he emphasized that the people who voted made a decision which everyone must accept. To him, one cannot compare Messis performance over the years with that of others. According to him, this is because it’s totally different and also on the First eleven list of best footballers, he does not think Modric and Mbappe should be in the lineup as well as Mohamed salah who is better than them.”

It was gathered that FIFA announced the world first eleven in men category which includes: Alisson beeker ; Matthijs de Ligt, Marcelo, Sergio Ramos, Virgil van Dijk; Frenkie de Jong, Eden Hazard, Luka Modric; Cristiano Ronaldo, Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi.
