The management of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, has mourned the demise of Babatunde Ayinla Habeeb, an ND 2 student of Mass Communication, who lost his life after a short illness on Monday 1st December 2021.
Babatunde Ayinla, a fast-rising artiste, popularly known by his stage name as Ayinla Solo, was mourned at 1000 capacity, by his classmates at the short prayer organized by the department in his memory.
The head of the Department, mass communication, Alhaji Adunola Najeem, sympathized with the students and encouraged them to mourn the deceased peacefully and make their way to their abodes immediately.
The President of the Association of Student Communicators, Ascom, Kehinde Ayanboade Ademola acknowledged the presence of all the students and student leaders who graced the service and advised all students to speak up whenever they have health issues, irrespective of how little, for proper attention.
He prayed and enjoined students to make effective use of the school health center for emergencies and any health condition.
The Student Union President, Abdul Azeez Adedeji Adedamola, represented by the student Union Welfare, Adekitan Jesking, sympathized with the department and sent prayers to the family of the deceased.
Arinola, the deceased childhood friend, who doubled as his classmate, identified the deceased to be one of the nicest person she has met in her life.
She said, “I was with Ayinla this Sunday on his way to his producer. He said he’s about releasing his EP (extended play) but due to his sickness, he hasn’t had much strength to get lyrics together. I encouraged him and we departed. I was so shocked when I heard of his death. I pray God forgives him of his sins and may his soul rest in peace”.
The class representative, Mass communication ND 2, Olowoyo Taiwo, shared his words saying, “Ayinla is a great loss to the department and the whole of the polytechnic Ibadan.”
“He is super talented and he has dreams. He messaged me two days ago saying he’s seriously sick and he requested we pray for him. I told him quick recovery, thinking he was just a little sick. He’s dead is so sad but I pray he’s souls rest in peace”, he concluded.
Student leaders across the institution also came to send their condolences and sympathize with the department.
