The Polytechnic, Ibadan Press Council has officially rescheduled its much-anticipated State of the Union program to Thursday, 11th September 2025, following an apology letter tendered by the Student Union Government (SUG).
The event, originally slated for earlier this month, was postponed after controversies arose over the absence of SUG representatives, sparking concerns among students about leadership accountability and representation.
In the spirit of reconciliation and transparency, the SUG reportedly tendered a formal apology to the Press Council, admitting lapses in communication and pledging full participation in the rescheduled session.
The State of the Union program, themed around Student Welfare, Representation & Inclusivity, and Community Engagement, is designed as an open conversation where students directly engage their elected leaders. The platform seeks to bridge the gap between the union and the student body by providing an avenue to ask questions and demand answers.
Speaking on the development, the Press Council emphasized that the rescheduling demonstrates its commitment to fairness and inclusivity. “Our aim is to ensure that students’ voices are heard and that accountability remains at the center of leadership. With the SUG’s renewed commitment, we believe the 11th of September will mark a stronger and more productive conversation,” the statement read.
The event will now hold both physically and virtually, with live streaming available via Twitter Space and Facebook Live to enable wider participation from students.
Students across faculties are encouraged to take advantage of the platform to raise pressing concerns, particularly around welfare, representation, and inclusivity, in line with the union’s mandate.
The Press Council further urged all students to participate actively, noting that “Your Voice, Your Union, Your Power” remains the driving philosophy behind the initiative.
