“I HAVE REALIZED I MAY NOT GET OVER THIS TRAUMA.” These were the words of the victim, Miss Oyetoso Modupeoluwa, a lecturer in the Department of Computer Engineering after she had been released from kidnapper’s den.
According to her, she and her late fiancee were attacked by by Fulani herdsmen while driving along the Ibadan road, on their way back from Lanlate, Oyo State at around in the evening this month.
According to reports, she was only released after her family paid the whooping sum of fifty million naira (~N~ 50, 000, 000) to her captors
Ms. Modupeoluwa narrated how the incident happened on Splash FM last Monday. Apparently, they were stopped by two herdsmen at gun point but her fiancee didn’t stop as he increased the speed but unknown to them, another set of guys were ahead of them and shot Ms Modupe’s fiancee in the head. “I had to press the park button because my fiancee lost driving control as he gasp for breath as blood gushed out of his mouth and nostrils, so I took my phone and ran inside the forest, and I was chased by 4 herdsmen who pursued me with cutlasses I ran althrough the night and at some points I was thirsty and had to drink for a nearby stream.”
She noted that the herdsmen did not intend to shoot her fiancee but due to his stubbornness to escape from them. She said all they wanted was money.
Press council correspondents reached out to her departmental president and student, Yusuf Afenifere who gave his own take on the unfortunate event. “This is a crime that needs investigating, I wonder how Fulani herdsmen terrorise this far south. I beseech the government to provide security personnel in this axis and set out to find these culprits and bring them to justice for this heinous crime. I was told the governor had reached out to her to give his condolences for the death of her fiancee. We appreciate the gesture. And I, speaking for the students of my department we want to tell her we love her and we sympathise with her.”
The Nigeria Farmers Association, Oyo State chapter was present in the interview as she said the State Government must intervene as farmers who has large acres are scared of farming due to the insecurities of lives.
