The management of The Polytechnic, Ibadan held an Orientation Programme for fresh students of the 2023/2024 academic session today, 25th of January, 2024, at The Assembly Hall, North Campus of the institution.
The event started with the recitation of the National Anthem, Oyo State Anthem and the Institution’s Anthem. Afterwards, Alhaji Soladoye Adewole, the institution’s Public Relations Officer, who served as the anchor for the programme, introduced dignitaries present at the high table.
The Deputy Rector, Mrs. Salawu Olaide, who was in attendance on the capacity as the Deputy Rector and as well representing the Rector, Prof. Kazeem Adekunle Adebiyi, in her opening speech made it known that the orientation programme was organized to enlighten fresh students about the rules and regulations of the school. She proceeded by stating the expected behaviour of the students while on campus, noting that immoral acts, such as; cultism, assault, bullying and examination malpractice, will be shunned at.
In continuation, she urged students to pay all their school fees before the commencement of examinations on the 29th of January, 2024. She then declared the ceremony open, much to the receptive applause of students present.
The Registrar, Mrs. Theresa Fawale welcomed the students on campus whilst admonishing them to be of good conduct and follow the institution’s laid down rules and regulations at all times to avoid suspension or expulsion from the institution.
Dr. Olajide Taiwo, the institution’s Admission Officer took turn to orientate the students on what they need to do in order to get cleared and complete their admission processes. She further enlighten students on the required credentials to submit before they can be cleared, so as to be eligible to pay their school fees.
Dr. Babalola, the Director of CIDM, spoke about the students’ Registration procedure, how students can make payments on their own, with ease. She also enlightened students about their course structures, and GPA & CGPA calculation. She further admonishes the students to make the institution’s website their friend at all times. Dr. Babalola concluded her speech by advising the students to always make their HODs their friends in case of any useful information that they may need concerning their courses.
Mr. Sanni M.M, the institution’s Chief Librarian; also spoke about the importance of Library and as well the process of registering and using the institution’s library for academic pursuit. Dr. Abiodun Adegbuyi, The Deputy Registrar, Counseling Unit of the Directorate of Student Affairs, took her time to orientate the students in the aspect of their live on campus and indulge them to always seek counselling in her office.
Mr. Waheed Ojerinde, the institution’s Chief Security Officer, also spoke on the security awareness on campus and further gave students security cautious and rules for their safety. Mrs. Olawale, who spoke for Vocational Skills and Entrepreneurship Study Center (VSESC), explain the registration process and what students stand to benefit by tapping into the initiative. The Chief Medical Doctor of the institution was also in attendance to educate the students in how to register for medical and use the institution’s health center for their own benefit.
Opportunities were also given to a staff of Wema Bank and a staff of Poly Microfinance Bank, to tell the students what their various banks would be offering the new students if they open an account with them.
Music Technology Department students blessed the day with their sonorous music, while Funmifreedom, a Spoken Word Artist ended the day with her poetical performance which focuses on the lives of students on campus. The programme then ended with recitation of National Anthem.
In attendance at the programme were all members of the institution’s management including the Dean, Student Affairs, Mr. Makinde John, Dean of Faculties, Directors, HODs and Students Union Representatives.
