The Students’ Union Electoral Committee (SUEC) has met on Wednesday, 23rd July, 2025, to review the electoral time table and commences preparation for the Students’ Union election for the 25/26 academic session, setting the stage for campus wide participation and engagement.
In an official memorandum dated July 22, 2025, the necessary information are being presented to the Students, containing the 2025/2026 Students’ Union election process, eligibility criteria for the aspirants, rules guiding the campaign and electoral process, and the list of available positions for the Students’ Union Government Elections.
According to the reviewed schedule, nominations form will be made available from July 24, 2025, while completed forms will be due back July 30, 2025, after which successful aspirants will have their names displayed on July 31, 2025.
To ensure fairness and discipline, the Directorate has stipulated that all aspirants must:
1. Possess a minimum Lower Credit (2.5 GPA). The President must hold at least an Upper Credit in the first-semester result of their first year. 2. Not currently hold any office in their department, faculty, association (including Press Club), or any other campus body. 3. Be prepared to serve at all times with genuine interest and integrity. 4. Have no record of misconduct, criminal charges, or pending disciplinary cases either within or outside the institution.
In addition, aspirants must present the following documents during the screening exercise:
- 2024/2025 First and Second-Semester School Fees Receipts
- Valid Student ID Card
- 2024/2025 Students’ Union Fees Receipt
- First-Semester Results (for both ND and HND candidates)
- Photocopy of Matriculation Oath (for ND I and HND I students)
The Polytechnic has imposed stringent rules to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process. During campaigning, all candidates and their supporters are prohibited from:
1. Using motorcades 2. Pasting posters on office walls, lecture theatres, or classrooms 3. Employing unapproved digital banners 4. Wearing branded vests or caps 5. Inscribing messages on roads and buildings 6. Engaging in violence, alcohol consumption, or hard-drug use 7. Conducting campaign activities during lectures 8. Making hate speech or allowing external influence
Campaign activities will officially commenced on July 24, 2025 and run through till 3rd of August, 2025. All aspirants are strictly required to follow through with the rules guiding all electoral processes, any breaches to these regulations will attract strict sanctions by the disciplinary committee.
The memo is signed by Akintunde F. B. (MRS), Secretary SUEC, and is directed to all Faculty officers, Faculty teaching staff Rep, Press Council and all other concerned bodies to see distribution to the entire student body.
