The Polytechnic, Ibadan community witnessed a vibrant display of student democracy on October 22nd and 23rd, as the On-Air Students’ Union Election (SUE) Manifesto Presentation and Presidential Debate engaged students across campus through a live broadcast on REIZ FM 109.1, hosted by the Press Council of The Polytechnic, Ibadan.
The event began on October 22nd with aspirants contesting for supportive positions, and some principal executives such as the Vice President, Public Relations Officer, and Financial Secretary. These candidates outlined plans to strengthen communication, welfare, and student engagement within the Union.
The session, broadcast live on REIZ FM 109.1 and streamed across all Press Council social media platforms, was moderated by Omotayo Alade and Olabosinde Israel Oluwapelumi, who welcomed listeners and viewers tuning in from their homes and encouraged participation through live questions.
On October 23rd, attention shifted to aspirants vying for major executive offices, including President, General Secretary, Social Director, and Treasurer, who passionately presented their manifestos. Each candidate articulated a clear vision for progress, emphasizing transparency, accountability, and student participation in governance.
Immediately after the manifesto presentations the Presidential Debate follows between Fagbemi Nurudeen Ojo and Bello Basit Olalekan, the two contenders for the Students’ Union presidency.
The debate centered on the motion:
“Should the Students’ Union prioritize academic support programs over social and entertainment events in its annual budget allocation?”
Both aspirants defended their positions with logic, confidence, and well-thought-out policy ideas. Their exchanges reflected a deep understanding of student needs and showcased readiness to lead with vision and responsibility.
Throughout the two-day program, aspirants emphasized the importance of effective communication, transparency, and feedback, proposing suggestion boxes, digital platforms, and open forums to enhance student engagement.
As POLY DECIDE ’25 approaches, one message stands clear: the future of The Polytechnic, Ibadan lies in the hands of its students. The stage is set, make your voice heard, cast your vote, and let your choice shape tomorrow’s leadership.
