The Oyo State government through the Students’ Union Government of The polytechnic Ibadan led by Comrade Fadare Blessing distributed the COVID-19 palliative given to the students of the institution. The palliative was presented to the selected students on 23rd June 2020 at the institution’s SUG building.
While speaking, the president of the Union, “the palliative is from the state government and was facilitated by the students’ Union government to ensure that the students of Ibadan poly also enjoys the COVID 19 relief package released by the state government for Oyo state.”
He further explained that a hundred bags were given to Students Association in Oyo State and those bags were shared among students’ associations in the State also, the remaining 15 were shared among indigenous associations within the State. Also five bags each including the student Union of polyibadan was given and those bags are to be presented to five students each cutting across the five faculties in the institution.
According to Adedeji Fatima Folashade, the student Union welfare director said that the student union selected the beneficiary by released a survey link on the Union’s platform in which few students filled the link. Five of those who filled the link were selected.
“I’m really disappointed in some of the beneficiaries, out of the five that was selected few showed up, we had to make another selection to ensure that the packages are being delivered today”, she added
The press council correspondent interviewed Ogundele Quadri one of the beneficiaries from the faculty of business and communication studies, department of purchasing, and supply ND 2. He said, I’m happy for getting the package and he commends the efforts of SUG.” It really shows they are working for us”.
Also, Ridwan Kaffo, HND 2 student from the department of architecture, who also benefited from the relief package thanked the Oyo state government and also the SUG for the palliative. He advised the other students of Ibadan poly to always take cognizance of every activity on campus because many saw the link, few filled the survey. He also added that school is not only about studies, but gains also come from it too.
The Deputy Speaker of the students union legislative council, asnator Bikini Taiye appreciated the state government for reaching out to the student of the polytechnic Ibadan and also made a point that the numbers of bags presented were too small compared to the numbers of students in the school. He urges the government to try and provide enough so that many students will benefit.
At the event was the Student Union president, the deputy speaker of the Student Union, the welfare and also the chairman of the welfare, senator Faniyi Hassan.
Hence, the pandemic is still present in our country but we admonish every student of the institution to adhere to the guideline by health officials and we pray coronavirus to come to an end so that normalcy will return in our day to day activities.
