The National Association of Oyo Students (NAOS), The Polytechnic, Ibadan Chapter, has successfully hosted it’s much anticipated Orientation/Knowledge Session (O.K.S 1.0), themed “How Well Do You Know Your Home Town?” The event, which took place on 19th of February, 2025, at 150 Capacity, CEC Blocks, Middle Belt, The Polytechnic, Ibadan, drew a turnout of students eager to learn more about their cultural and historical roots.
The program began with an opening prayer led by Aare Ibarapa, Comrade Joseph Oredola, followed by the rendition of the Oyo State Anthem. Following which Aare Makinde Mutiu Abiodun, NAOS President, then delivered a welcome address, highlighting the importance of the event in fostering cultural awareness and unity among Oyo State indigenes.
Several dignitaries graced the occasion, including Mr. Oladokun R.A., Aare Oyebamiji Samuel (erstwhile NAOS President), Comrade Philip Oluwatobiloba, and Comrade Engr. Tijani Rokeeb, CEO of Roken’s Property, alongside other notable student leaders. In his remarks, Mr. Oladokun offered practical advice to NAOS members and guests on maintaining proper conduct, both during examinations and throughout campus life.
A short interlude featured a captivating Yoruba praise chant by Omidan Ayoka Akewi, which enlivened the atmosphere and set the stage for the guest speaker, Aare Lukman Habeebulah Abiodun. Addressing the theme of the event, Aare Lukman underscored the value of understanding one’s hometown and heritage as a springboard for personal growth and community development.
In his closing remarks, Comrade Engr. Tijani Rokeeb expressed his pride in the unity and enthusiasm displayed by the attendees. He urged the students to carry the spirit of cultural pride beyond the event, encouraging them to be ambassadors of positive change while remaining deeply connected to their roots.
